School Holidays in Malaysia vs. Four-Season Countries 🌞

One thing that often surprises expatriates in Malaysia is how different the school holiday calendar looks compared to countries with four distinct seasons. In many parts of the world, especially Europe and North America, schools have a long summer break, usually around two months, which shapes how families plan their holidays.

In Malaysia, we do not have a long summer break because it is summer all year round. Instead, school holidays are spread out across the calendar in shorter blocks, typically around March, May/June, August/September, and November/December. This means families often plan shorter, more frequent getaways rather than one long holiday.

For expatriates moving here, it is important to keep this in mind when planning family activities or overseas trips. Aligning with the Malaysian school calendar will make life smoother, especially when it comes to booking travel, managing childcare, or joining local holiday programmes for children.

And a small note from us: our blog posts may be a little slower than usual at the moment. Our author is currently based in a four-season country and is in the midst of summer holidays there. We will be back on track with more Malaysia insights very soon.
