Today, we join countless Malaysians at home and abroad in wishing a very Happy 100th Birthday to Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, a statesman whose vision continues to shape the lives of many, including ours at Malaysian Link.

This tribute is personal. Every member of our team received the life-changing opportunity to study in Japan thanks to Tun’s Look East Policy. Introduced in 1982, it encouraged Malaysians to learn from the discipline, resilience, and work ethic of the East.

Beyond academic knowledge, our time in Japan instilled in us lifelong values. One of the most enduring is 恩返し (on-gaeshi), the deep-rooted cultural practice of repaying kindness. That spirit of giving back now guides our mission at Malaysian Link: to serve others, just as we were once supported.

We also carry with us the value of おもてなし (omotenashi), the Japanese art of wholehearted hospitality. It is not just about service. It is about making others feel truly seen, welcomed, and cared for. This is the same spirit we bring into every interaction with the expatriates we support.

In many ways, Malaysian Link is our 生きがい (ikigai) — our purpose. It is a project born out of gratitude and shaped by a desire to help others feel at home in Malaysia, just as we once found belonging abroad.

To Tun, we say terima kasih for the vision that changed our lives and for planting the seeds of connection across borders.
